Transcendentalism

From your text book: Literature Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes page 362 - Transcendentalism was an intellectual movement founded by Emerson that affected most of the writers of his day.

The core beliefs of the Transcendentalists were:

- Human senses can know only the physical reality.
- The fundamental truths of existence lay outside the reach of the senses and can only be grasped through intuition
- Humans must be attentive to the human spirit
- Humans must observe nature because the human spirit is reflected in nature
- God, nature, and humans are connected/ united by an Oversoul which is a universal soul.

******Do you have any questions about these core beliefs? ******

Reguarding ques. one, i agree with what they're trying to say.If everyone followed rules perfectly, then the world would seem unrealistic. There would be no such thing as problems, or resolution, or happiness due to the resolution of the problem(s). Even if there was a such thing as problems, no one would go against the rules to protest and there would be no such thing as fighting for equality.

I don't have any questions for the beliefs. But at the same time I don't believe half of it. It says "Human senses can know only the physical reality." God is not a physical being and yet he provides us with ways to draw close to him through the bible. But I do believe in a connection with nature I just don't believe that it's any deeper than we need each other for survival.

I agree with the core belief that "God, nature, and humans are coonected, united by an oversoul which is a universal soul. Because with out human nature couldn't exist and with out nature humans couldn't exist. Humans rely on nature for food and also some type of peace. Thats why i agree with Transcendentalism.
