The Ceremony

Today we participated in a "ceremony" to mark the crossover from Emerson to Thoreau. There were a few people missing from the class today. Briefly describe some highlights from the ceremony or reflect on a quote that you heard today. Reflect on the "light" and share.

I actually liked the ceremony experience. It was something that I have never experienced before, and I would love to do it again. One of the best parts of this ceremony was crossing over to "learn moe about Theroe" ( I know I spelled it wrong, but I dont have a book infront of me).I know I will remember the quotes more, if we were to have a quiz on them, just by remembering who said it and how they presented thier quote. It kinda felt like we were crossing over top a type of sorority. I didnt focus to much on the flash light, but I paid a lot of attention to the "strong quotes". It was also very relaxing, hearing the storm like music in the background.

I enjoyed the ceremony a lot. It was a difference experience for me. I liked the part in which the quotes were read. Some readers were really into their quotes which made it the ceremony entertaining. The storm sounds were also enjoyable.

The ceremony was really interesting. I really enjoyed the way we had to keep the tone of the ceremony. The calming music that was playing was a perfect addition. When I learned that we each had to use the flashlight and read our quote I was anxious for my turn. I was really amused watching everyone use the two desks as a prop when we wanted to "learn mo about Thoreau." Most of the quotes were very deep, while some didn't make any sense at all. It was a great experience and I was shocked that for the most part everyone participated. Over all the ceremony was wonderful. I feel sorry for the people who missed it and I hope that we can do something like that again.

I felt that the ceremony highlighted are crossover greatly. We were able to establish an end to our studies. It therefore prepared us for a beginning. The "light" was great and so was the stormy music. I felt like we were forced into our quotes by our imagination. Most of us used enthusiasm and it reflected our presentations. I was confused about the "ceremony" at first but it's ok Mrs.Fritz because "To be great, is to be misunderstood" :) I really enjoyed the "ceremony" and I hope to do it again.

This ceremony thing was interesting. I was something totally different and out of the box for an english class. I think my favorite part was reading the quotes from Emerson and then the jump or crossing over to Thoreau. i loved the depth of many of the quotes from both writers. I guess the flashlight was there to shine a light on the many different opinions of the writers and the emotions behind them. All in all this was fun because in a normal english class all we would do would be research or out of the book. It's about time someone went out of the box. Thanks Mrs. Fritz.

This ceremony to me basically made it clear once and for all that we dont have an average English teacher, Ha! It was a lot of fun. My favorite part of it all was reading the quotes and jumping the line. I never would have thought we could have a transendentalism ceremony. The idea was great and i enjoyed the atmosphere of the room. Especially since everyone in our class is silly and really got into the whole concept. Thanks Mrs. Fritz for helping me learn 'Mo about Tharogh!'

This ceremony was very different from anything I've ever seen. Everyone read a quote from Emerson and Thoreau. To me the reasoning for the light was to give emphasis on the quotes and make people incorporate the light in with their quotes in their own way. So basically everyone that was in class today are official trancendentalists.

Well I would like to say honestly that today's class was very eccentric and something I never experience before. However I enjoyed myself very much and I am glad to have Mrs. Fritz as my teacher to make this wonderful experience happen. The quote that stood out to me the most was "To have a friend you must be a friend". I don't know why it stuck out to me though,it just did.

I enjoyed the whole ceremony and also enjoyed the quotes everyone said. Being apart of transcendalism ceremony was an experience that was fun for me and something new. With the flashlight i guess it indicates the different views of Emerson and Thoreau but in the same meaning. i think the flashlight was used to show the meaning behind the author.

The ceremony was a tad bit wierd(like me) and interesting. I liked Emerson to a degree and hopefully Thoreau will take me a tad bit higher than Emerson did.

Before I even stepped a foot in the door to class, I became confused as to what was about to happen. Ms. Fritz gave me a quote and told everyone who entered, "No talking." As I walked to my seat, I heard sounds of nature playing throughout the classroom. The lights were off and each of my classmates were anxious to see what happend next. The crossover was kind of bizarre. Standing in a circle, connected by fists, we each took turns reading a quote by Emerson on top of a desk with a flashlight. Then, we jumped over a line on the floor, ensuring that we had crossed over. To end our ceremony, we joined our circle again and read quotes by Thoreau. It was a crazy experience, but our teacher is fun and crazy every day;so, it wasn't that far from the norm.

At first the ceremony felt kind of stupid to me besause I am not usually open to new things but the people in the class made it something fun to do. I liked the "light" it was also something new for me. For the people who missed the ceremony you truly missed a unique experience one you would have enjoyed. Some of the quote we read left an print to think about. I think this was very interesting I would like to do this again.

I really enjoyed the ceremony experience. It was really exciting to be able to learn about different writers through the ceremony. Listening to everyone read their quotes in the special way they did was really nice also. The ceremony also felt like some type of jugement thing, and having to repeat a saying and jump the tape felt like we were crossing into another world. But I loved it!

I honestly enjoyed the ceremony and is looking forward to learning more on Thoreau. But a brief synopsis on the ceremony is "Things do not change we change
To be great is to be misunderstood."

My favorite quote was the one that went "the only way to know virtue is to have virtue and the only way to have a friend is to be a friend". It was my favorite because I'm not that old but I have seen as well as experienced people who can take it but can't dish it out! People feel like you always owe them an explanation or something like that but you can't get the same respect.

I loved the ceremony. In Mrs. Fritz class we always do things that I have never experienced but I would have never imagined the whole process we went through. I loved how the whole class came together and we had fun while learning as usual. I also liked how I could tell what everyone thought of their quote or how personal it was to them by the tone of their voice.

Today we participated in a ceremony that I really enjoyed. At first I was kind of skeptical because when I first walked in there was this nature-like music in the background. I was really feeling the quotes because they made you wonder if you had to really think about them or if what was said was things that was obvious but looked over. I especially liked the part when we had to jump over the line and say "I'm ready to learn mo about Thoreau." Overall it was a great experience.

From what it sounds like I would have liked the ceremony. It sounds like they had fun with the flashlight thing and the scary background music. I wish I could have been there because maybe I would have had a better understanding of the quotes.
